Unfortunately this letter was never published in the paper it was sent to but I am sharing it with you here: Re: bombing of Church in Peshawar There are no words to describe the pain I feel at the loss of life of Pakistani Christians after 2 suicide bombers attacked the All Saints Church in Peshawar, Pakistan. The ongoing terror attacks since 2001 in Pakistan have claimed lives of thirty thousand Pakistanis of all religious and ethnic backgrounds. This attack is of particular anguish for Pakistanis in its enormity and because it targets a minority that they are honour and religiously bound to protect. I am appreciative of the fact that leadership of both Christian and Muslim faiths in Pakistan have come out quickly and firmly to stand together in condemning this heinous crime and urging all Pakistanis not to frame it as a religious conflict but to see it for what it is - a terrorist attack, meant to cause conflict and to de- stabilize the fragile social communal culture. These same terrorist have targeted both Shia and Sunni mosques, sufi shrines, schools and shopping malls, aiming to create sectarian conflict and social upheaval. Pakistan is hanging on through sheer moral resilience , while its leader scramble to establish law and security. Pakistanis of all faith have marched on the streets in solidarity with their Christian brethren sharing a mutual grief over the loss of life and for the many injured. They are praying together and offering help and assistance to families as one nation. This is an example we need to follow here when we talk about human suffering around the world and not separate crimes against humanity along ethnic and religious lines. Our hearts should feel the pain and share the grief equally for any human life lost to terrorist attacks. Pakistanis continue to pay an unimaginable price for the war on terror through terrorist and drone attacks, while the world remains indifferent to their suffering. This insanity has to stop.
