Unfortunately, when tourists come to Dublin and visit the must-see - TopicsExpress

Unfortunately, when tourists come to Dublin and visit the must-see Merrion Square, the focus is on the colorful Georgian doors in the buildings, and perhaps the memorial to Oscar Wilde as well as his family home. They dont walk through the park thats there and, for this, they are all the poorer. Its a beautiful place, the park. Its a quiet wonderland these days. It hasnt always been open to the public. Originally, you had to be a resident and have a key to get in. That was changed in the 1960s. It was all farmland when the townhouses were planned and built in the late16th and early 17th centuries. Someone had the bright idea to make a park and bring in plants from all over the world, just to see which would thrive and become part of the landscape for the pleasure of the wealthy who lived there. Today, its full of eye candy. There are meandering paths, quiet places to sit and rest, and even a small, but very unique, collection of fanciful seating. Go there if you can...
