Unions are modeled straight from the guild systems of the middle - TopicsExpress

Unions are modeled straight from the guild systems of the middle ages. It is designed to be a caste system where they guild leader(s) decide who joins/who works and how much they make. It has absolutely nothing to do with how well someone performs or how hard they work. Ive run an engineering consultancy for a long while now and it is similar in that the company would negotiate the jobs and the pay to the employees. Two HUGE differences: 1) The client can fire us and get services elsewhere (amicably by us) and 2) The employee can quit at will and work wherever they want. The second point is the most important point, and perhaps enables the first, but it is this freedom of movement that allows individuals to choose their fate. They can work where they want and negotiate their wage, salary, bonuses and benefits…and even move to states with little or no state income tax. It is magical. It also encourages the free flow of ideas and techniques that I believe enables places like Silicon Valley to be so productive.
