Unisa and the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) will jointly host a book launch of 18 titles in African languages, representing ten official languages in South Africa, at Unisa’s Main Campus on Friday, 23 May 2014. The book launch aimed at the growth and development of previously marginalised languages, with the publishing of African literature as one of the key vehicles towards meeting this objective. The initiative promotes functional multilingualism in order to accommodate linguistic diversity; as well as PanSALB’s own mandate to promote multilingualism in South Africa by fostering the development of 11 official languages, while also encouraging the use of the many other languages spoken in the country.
