Unit Diary HQ 53rd Arm’d Inf Bn 4th Arm’d Div 23 December – Left Bonnert at 0640 under control of Reserve Command with mission of clearing the town of Flatzborhof and aiding the advance of CC”A”. At 1200 arrived at Holtz. Distance travelled 11.4 miles. CP set up in school house here. At 1230 Company “A” and Company “C” were in position with Companies “A” and “C” of the 37th Tank Battalion in the vicinity of Flatzborhof. B/53 in position with B/37 on high ground NE of Flatzborhof. At 1430 all companies were ready to attack Bigonville. Companies to protect right flank. At 1700 the attack on Bigonville was meeting heavy resistance. Due to darkness, all units consolidated their present positions for the night, ready to continue the attack in the morning.
