Unit Secretary Category: Clerical Facility: Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta Job Details: High School/GED Job Summary: The role of Nursing Unit Secretary (NUS) is responsible for supporting registration processes in the nursing unit including facilitation of admission, discharge, and patient transfer functions. Helps to maintain current medical records and order entry on all unit patients. Assists as needed in the answering of patient calls and general unit phone calls, ensuring the nursing staff is notified appropriately. Assists in receiving, greeting, and directing patients and visitors to the unit, ensuring that professionalism, courtesy, and cultural sensitivity are maintained. At all times it is expected that the employee will act as a member of the health care team to ensure appropriate resources to all internal/external customers; maintain secure and trusting environment, ensuring the customer’s right to privacy and dignity. Performs other duties as needed. Job Specifications: Required Knowledge and Skills: Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Interpersonal skills to effectively work position assignments. Answers telephones. Data entry, proofread, and retrieval via EMR. Standard office equipment (i.e. calculator, fax, photocopier). Personal computer and computer software skills (i.e. MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, timekeeping, e-mail). Education and Experience: Minimum Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. One year of Business college experience or the equivalent preferred. Minimum of one year experience in a secretarial role with a medical background required. Minimum of 2 years experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary or related field preferred. Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Current BLS, Heart Saver (HS), or Health Care Provider (HCP) or within 30 days employment required.
