United Way of Long Island has received $1.45 million in Federal and State Grants for its YouthBuild Long Island program. The combined grants include: $1,100,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor; $300,000 from New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA); and $50,000 from New York State Department of Labor. Designed to improve the economic prospects of low-income young men, women and veterans, ages 18 – 24, YouthBuild Long Island is a free, income-qualifying program of integrated education, training programs and support services that assist participants in securing entry level employment. The Federal and State grants will enable YouthBuild to expand partnerships, which will foster career skills training beyond its established construction skills/building trades curriculum, branching into healthcare training, customer service, office skills and other career areas. Each career pathway offers opportunities for advancement as well as a quality workforce for employers.
