United may have Found Scholes’s Replacement in Dutch Star Posted on June 3, 2013 by Soccerisma United may have Found Scholes’s Replacement in Dutch StarLately, the Red Devils have been linked with quite a few midfileders mainly because one of the greatest players of his generation and United legend Paul Scholes retired at the end of last season. One of David Moyes’s main tasks is to find and sign his replacement. Reports in the media suggest that the English champions have agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven’s versatile midfielder Kevin Strootman. United may have found Schole’s replacement in the Dutch star if all goes according to plan as Strootman is amongst the brightest young talents around. The 23 year old will be featuring for Holland in U-21 European Championship and may join the United squad after the tournament concludes. Having the ability to score goals as well as provide defensive shield, the versatile talent can perfectly fit alongside Michael Carrick in United’s midfield and can add to both attack and defense. Adding to that, he is comfortable on the ball, rarely loses possession and passes the ball well. We have not seen signs of Strootman scoring 30 yards stunning volleys like Scholes used to do and it may be naive to say that he will immediately be able to fill the boots of the retired legend but the Dutchman certainly has the talent to grow and be as important as the English midfielder was for United. PSV rate him very highly, somewhat around 12-15 million pounds and by all means that amount is fair for him as the former Utrecht star will surely improve the quality of United squad.
