University of Free State boss Jonathan Jansen woke up one morning - TopicsExpress

University of Free State boss Jonathan Jansen woke up one morning to find two dozen for sale signs outside his house. He believes the signs were placed by a person - or people - from his university upset with his transformation agenda. Jansen was a member of a panel of senior academics in Cape Town last night discussing transformation at universities. He said though traditionally English-speaking universities such as Cape Town had already established a culture of rigorous intellectual debate, debate at traditionally Afrikaans universities such as Stellenbosch and his own often degenerated into death threats and insults. He said he regularly received death threats. He startled the crowd when he said Stellenbosch University had shown a serious lack of sensitivity by holding the funeral service of its first black vice-chancellor, Russel Botman, in the DF Malan Centre. I just thought that was highly insensitive. DF Malan was the first apartheid prime minister. He caused havoc in this country. Not being able to reflect on that as a university is very sad thing, he said.timeslive.co.za/thetimes/2014/10/22/transformation-lagging-at-afrikaans-universities
