Unjointed The pain of each scene The letter I opened The words that fell out of Your mouth The news that I received. I still remember. I could not believe What I was hearing. Searing pain -- It felt like my flesh was being ripped From my body. And yet, The pain subsided. Or was numbed. The loss of connection To another person Is never easy. We come unjointed A shapeless heap Lying on the floor. How can that kind of Hurt Be healed? And yet, It is. From endings hollowing Out a deep place in our hearts Comes a larger chamber to hold Beginnings, New life. From the searing pain of loss A glimmer of light appears to open up Our lifeless eyes And the shapeless heap Transforms into a living, moving Sculpture Full of life And ready to dance once again. Death, a resting place Temporary, A time to contemplate Dig deep And make room For the joy of spring. In our losses, In our grief, Time becomes a gift, The seed lying dormant Under the snow Will use the heavy moisture To swell and break through, Just in time To greet the light And welcome warmth. Hope is the anchor of Faith. Holding fast until the currents Turn and rush us back To shore. Amy Vaughan October 24, 2014
