Unnecessary Pain, Anyone? This morning, after my long training run, I went for my usual swim to unwind. This morning, I asked for advice on a new pair of goggles, as the old ones always seemed pretty uncomfortable after about 1,000 metres. Turns out the rubber seals had aged and hardened so badly they should have been retired months ago. The guy on the desk, being a competitive swimmer, was amazed I had lasted so long with them. Werent they painful? Well yes, I replied, but I had no idea they were that far gone - I was so into my training, I kind of ignored it. I joked about us endurance athletes being so used to discomfort that we can sometimes overlook pain. As soon as I bought these new goggles, it hit me that we all put up with pain in our lives and businesses that goes well beyond endurance or anything else that serves us. But amazingly, we often dont notice it, or if we do, we dont realise the choices right in front of our noses [pun only partly intended!]. Or we notice it and see the choices, but we just dont get around to acting on that awareness. Of course, this is all obvious. And yet, its a perennial and expensive issue for most marketers, and most business owners, as well as humanity at large. So what unnecessary pain have you got, and what can be done simply and quickly to make an immediate improvement? Where appropriate, who can help, so theres an even bigger win-win for all? And going even further, how can you leverage that to add value for your clients? Between us all, theres an incredible amount of collected knowledge, skills and experience - and therefore, business value. Its so inspiring to see all this sharing and mutual progress, and I hope this little story is a useful parable. So heres to less unnecessary pain for each of us, and our clients, and more of the good stuff that happens when were each working in our flow...
