Unnerving listening to this story presented on Radio 4 Today - TopicsExpress

Unnerving listening to this story presented on Radio 4 Today programme today as just one little item, with everything else business as usual. Here, in the Guardian: An 8F rise – among the most likely scenarios could make once rare extreme weather events – 100-year floods, droughts and heat waves – almost annual occurrences. Of course, its always the old (post)colonial story, with the poorest suffering first. Well, if its that depressing, why WOULD anyone want to talk about it, but the article still suggests that its worth cutting emissions. So perhaps there are ethical reason for discussing this story? People gifted with extra-special communications skills really could be doing more to bring this into the public domain- where are the edgy writers of Wales? (Thankfully there are some, like Emily HInshelwood, Susan Richardson, John Barnie, Lloyd Jones etc). More generally, if this theme is too big for mass-media- is it beyond literature too? Is the lack of writerly response a colossal failure of the worst and most dangerous kind- a failure of imagination? That IS depressing….: theguardian/environment/2014/mar/18/climate-change-world-risk-irreversible-changes-scientists-aaas
