Until we begin to tell ourselves the truth, Nigeria will neither - TopicsExpress

Until we begin to tell ourselves the truth, Nigeria will neither change nor develop. Our recent national honours award to some deserving citizens only portray us as a nation that is totally rudderless and clueless. While I do not have any atom of reservation against the award given to the designer of the Nigerian flag, Pa Michael Akinkumi, I seriously have issues with the award to our under performing and thieving governors and politicians alike. I take very serious exception to the award given to the Governor of Abia State, Theodore Ahamefule Orji. It surely and certainly negates the entire integrity of the award itself. Politics as I know it is an avenue and a hallowed opportunity to serve and better the lives of others. Sadly, it is not so for Nigerian politicians as they use politics as a gateway for personal enrichment and poverty alleviation of their families and cronies. While the masses suffer abject poverty and degradation, they live in unbridled affluence and unfettered opulence. It is ridiculous that Abia State under the watch of Orji as governor has dwindled and depreciated to a decadent level. A visit to Aba, one of the commercial nerve centers of the country will surely open the eyes of even doubting Thomass that this man is a huge fraud in governance. Aba has no single motorable road and yet the helpless and hapless residents of the city are subjected to serious extortion on daily basis in the name of defined and undefined fees and levies by the state and its agents. The Federal government knows that this man and others like him are fraud in governance but yet goes ahead to give them awards. Tomorrow, we shout to the high heavens about national rebirth and also talk about the fight against corruption. It is certain that we are aware that we are shooting ourselves on the foot. We are also aware that we are massively under-developing our nation albeit voluntarily. We are equally aware that we are leaving a horrible and ignoble legacy to the younger generation of Nigerians. We need to have a rethink
