Upcoming Potential Severe Weather Event •A strong cold front - TopicsExpress

Upcoming Potential Severe Weather Event •A strong cold front is forecast to approach the region from the northwest late on Sunday evening. •Conditions will be favorable for severe thunderstorms across portions of western North Carolina where shear and instability will be maximized ahead of the intruding frontal boundary. •The primary threats will be damaging winds and large hail with any of these storms. Additionally, there will be an isolated tornado threat along and north of interstate 40 where shear is greatest. •Latest model guidance indicates that the activity along the front will weaken by mid morning Monday as it enters the North Carolina piedmont, upstate of South Carolina, and northeast Georgia. However a few strong/severe thunderstorms cannot be ruled out for these areas through late morning Monday. •The front is expected to push southeast of the region by approximately noon on Monday, thereby allowing the thunderstorm threat to diminish.
