Update: 12-1 I spent the night with florence last night. Its just too adorable to wake up and look up towards her incubator to see little hands and feet waving in the air. Then I just cant resist and I get up and go oggle/goggle over her cuteness. I had the chance to hold her last night. I told her all about big brother and sister and how they were so excited to come see her soon. She was all swaddled up in a blanket and was resting her arm over her face ( A-dorable! ) and just snoozing away. We got to snuggle for a couple hours. She did well in the night and is doing good this morning. I got to change her first poopy diaper. :) exciting stuff. She weighs 1 lb 14 oz. Grandpa and grandma winter visited her on Saturday. Here is her update with a little more detail: Dad & I enjoyed spending sometime with Florence last night. Her nurse Lauren is very sweet. She has signed up to have Florence each of the nights she works. Which is 3 nights a week, 12 hr shifts. She always tells us everything about Florence. How her day went, how she is doing right at the moment, what meds she is on & how much, what problems she may be having & any concerns they have... Last night when we visited, Lauren said Florence was doing better in the later eve than she had been in the day. Her breathing was only dropping down 6-9 times an hour vs the 9-12 the times during the day. She did drop down once while we were there & was not going back up as soon as Lauren would like, so she cleaned out her breathing tube. This is done routinely by a suction device that is permanently connected to her oxygen tube. She picked back up after this was done. As Lauren was checking her vitals and adjusting her monitors, while we were there, her oxygen level dropped again. Lauren said Florence was mad at her for messing with her so she was holding her breath :) she calmed down when Lauren held her snug and still and then resumed her normal breathing. Florences milk intake was reduced when she was so sick. The doctor is trying again to get it back up, and were at 4 mils. They have been monitoring her digestive system to see if she is able to digest this much milk. She was unable to so they reduced her amount back to her minimum of 2 mls. It was very interesting to watch and understand how they monitor this: the milk is suctioned out of her stomach thru her feeding tube. It is measured in the syringe and if she has not digested a certain percent then they know they need to reduce the amount. The nurse said it is OK that she is not digesting much. It tells them she may still be fighting a bit of an infection. She also said her lung development is her main need and it is better for her body to focus on that right now, rather than on digesting food. She receives gatoraid, vitamins, and fat boosters, thru her IV. She is gaining weight and is about 1#13oz. Some of this is fluid retention which they are monitoring by measuring her belly circumference. She is on Lasiks to help her pee it off and this is working well. After all of these vitals were checked and the normal ones (temp, blood pressure, pulse, lungs) then the respitory therapist and Lauren turned her over onto her belly. They adjusted her tubing then she snuggled right down and went to sleep. She is a precious little girl and we are so grateful that God is blessing her with strength and peace. She is in critical condition, and will be to her lungs develop more, but she is stable. The nurses love working with her and It is a blessing to see the tenderness in which the care for her. Thank you for your continued prayers for Florence, Daniel and Hannah, and Adonia and Creed. Bless you, Carole and all our families
