Update: 8/1, 6:32 a.m.: Its official: Im married to the sweetest man alive. Butch had a comfortable, quiet, AWAKE night. And he was ready to talk. I fell asleep, so he had the nurse (a new one to us who is about 10 years old....) lip reading what he was saying from about 3:30 a.m. until now. She told me he was trying to tell her something for quite awhile but she just couldnt get it. Finally she figured it out. He was saying Thank you for taking care of me. When I awoke, she said to me: He is SO SWEET! Ive been telling everyone that I just cant wait until they all get to meet him. Since he is on contact isolation, we have to wear gowns and gloves when in the room - especially if we are going to touch him. I hate that. It must feel awful to him to be constantly touched with the barrier created by rubber gloves. He kept asking for a kiss yesterday, and I finally just lightly kissed him. Now we have mastered the art of the air kiss. I am ecstatic to be able to share these air kisses with him. I am ecstatic to have him. I have a feeling that today is going to be a big day. He will do more breathing trials, pass them, and hopefully be off the vent once and for all.....soon. :) When I can go back in at 8:00, Im going to ask him if I can take a picture of him for all of you. He looks fantastic.
