Update 9/23/14 9:30 PM We have answers... Savannah has a staph infection. I was hopeful she wouldnt acquire any hospital infections, but weve been here 105 days. Several of her ribs have been compromised from the infection. Now that theyve identified the bug, they can narrow the antibiotics. The course of treatment is at least 6 weeks, possibly longer. On a positive note, I learned she could still have her final bowel repair surgery and g-tube in a few weeks and possibly (crossing fingers!) finish her antibiotics course at home. I also learned that the antibiotic is specifically for staph and it doesnt strip gut flora or have other typical side effects. Otherwise, shes back to her cheerful self! I had a wonderful surprise this morning... shes back in her blue crib! The chest tube is much, much smaller and more flexible then her previous tubes. Shes still smiling and breathing more comfortably today. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts!
