Update 9/24 September 24, 2013 8:57pm Ella at the clinic on Monday. Ella had another wonderful week and high enough counts on Sunday to proceed with treatment yesterday afternoon! She received her methotrexate and vincristine chemos through her port, and it was Day 41 and the last treatment of Interim Maintenance I. If her counts are high enough, Ella’s next round of treatment begins Thursday, October 10, which is Delayed Intensification. Until then, we just have a physical therapy appointment this Friday and home care will come next week to draw blood to check her counts. We realize that DI will be more intense and challenging for Ella and us since more chemotherapies will be introduced and administered as well as steroids again. However, we are thankful that most of the treatments will be outpatient (one overnight stay) and the steroids will be given for the first week, then a week break, followed by another week. This is much better compared to twice a day, every day for the entire month we were in the hospital! Ella continues to be a happy and brave little girl. It is amazing and a blessing how patient she is with her medication, her port access, and while she is receiving her chemos at the hospital. If only we could get her to be more calm with the removal of the bandage when her port is deaccessed - she has not been a fan lately! We had another fun weekend! Recently, Ella has asked about the pool so since the outdoor pool is closed at the Y, we took her swimming at the indoor pool Saturday evening. There was one other family there with three children. The mother asked how old Ella is and after talking briefly, I felt inclined to tell her that Ella was diagnosed with ALL in May. Of all things, their oldest daughter who is now six, was diagnosed at age 4 with ALL and will be done with treatment in April. Crazy! Needless to say, we had wonderful conversation with them, sharing and comparing our experiences. Ella and their daughter showed each other their ports, and Ella had fun playing with some of their pool toys. We exchanged information and hope to see them again soon! On Sunday after her port was accessed, we were able to go to church and brunch, in which Ella was extremely well-behaved at both! This week is another eventful week in the Boynton household … tea parties, reading to animals and dolls, painting, playing outside, etc. with Grandma and Grandpa Bartelheim. We are all looking forward to Thursday evening and Light the Night Walk for LLS. Thank you to all of you who have donated to our fundraising page! We truly appreciate your support for LLS.
