Update: Bandit and Tula have arrived at the Ruff House. I really wanted to update you last night but by the time we got home and got the kids settled and in their kennels we were exhausted. Bandit, what can I say. Aside from being underweight and having a broken leg, hes stellar. Hes strong as an ox and sweet as sugar. When he fills out, his head will match his body but right now hes just a big ol head and its lovely. He has the Mona Lisa smile when you are doing something he likes (i.e. belly rubs, meeting new people, getting a pat on the head). He loves to nuzzle into your lap for attention and will be a wonderful and affectionate companion for someone. Well get him to the vet today and get his leg assessed….stay tuned….. Tula, sweet Tula is traumatized. No doubt being in a shelter with hundreds of other dogs probably pushed her over the edge. She has brief panics when being confined which I assume some of that anxiety is coming from being trapped. Leashes are not her friends and she will chew through one faster than you can say, well…………. anything. I imagine either she was dragged with a rabies pole or she had to have a pretty bad experience with them (as well as none prior) so those things coupled together will = a dog with strong leash aversion. We have her dragging one around and putting a little pressure on it here or there so she knows leashes dont mean anything bad anymore. She acts like she wants nothing to do with you but then melts into your hand when you rub her face and ears. She is ok with me petting her past her shoulders and if I do it long enough, her eyes will get heavy and she will actually rest. She wants to trust but she doesnt trust us……yet. Well have the vet come to house to minimize her anxiety until she gets comfortable in her surroundings. The Ruff House is quiet so I think its the perfect place for her at the moment. She reminds me of a scared Derby (for those of you who know Derby). Hero goes in for another surgery and Sunshine is doing well. Tala the blind Husky will be coming up in mid October and we have a transport next week so more to come. Jaydah the beautiful pittie with mobility issues should be coming in mid-October as well. This is turning into a really busy Fall. I dont know if its me but this year seems to be worse than others as far as injured dogs in need, tons of mama dogs, dogs being abandoned and litters of puppies after puppies after puppies. We would love to bring up more but will need to raise funds to hire some folks to come help. We are constantly having to say no which breaks our hearts but with help we can say yes more. By October we will have 7+ special needs dogs as well as our regular scheduled transport of adoptable dogs/pups coming to the Ruff House. If you would like to donate you can do so through our website at peaceandpaws.org and Sunshine, Hero and Bandit have their very own You Caring page and you can follow the link here… …...youcaring/medical-fundraiser/sunshine-and-hero-/234218 I hope you know how much we appreciate you all. The support and the donations and the prayers keep this engine purring. This would be impossible without you and because of you, dogs like Bandit, Tula, Sunshine, Jaydah and countless others all get a chance to live.
