Update: Highway Patrol asking for help in finding hit-and-run vehicle By Rachael Van Horn 08/12/2014 6:30 PM The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is asking the public to assist in locating the people responsible for a hit and run accident last Saturday night that killed 22-year-old Erica Chairez. Chairez was hit by a passing motorist around 11:35 p.m. as she walked toward her vehicle on Eighth Street south of Woodward, according to the OHPreport. The driver never stopped, according to witnesses of the incident. Chairez was airlifted from Woodward Regional to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she died of her injuries, according to the report. Trooper Mike Fike, who is investigating the accident, said evidence gathered at the scene is beginning to tell the story of what happened Saturday night. But most importantly the evidence confirms what type and color of vehicle hit Chairez. Fike spent the day Tuesday walking all of the evidence gathered Saturday night through the process at the Oklahoma State Crime Lab. “We need people to be on the lookout for a white Ford F-250, four-door that has over-sized tires,” Fike said. Fike said the type of over-sized tires he believes could be on this pickup are the kind that stick out about three to four inches wider than the body of the pickup. He said the vehicle that hit Chairez had a bug shield. A bug shield is a hard, thin plastic ridge that is about four inches wide and runs across the front of the hood to deflect bugs upward from the windshield. “There will also possibly be some damage to the right or passenger side tire rim and the passenger side of the vehicle,” he said. “It may not be easily noticeable damage though.” Fike noted that some of the trace evidence collected could supply them with enough information to narrow their search even more in coming days. The accident happened the night of the Fists of Fury Cage Fights, Fike said. Since it occurred around 11:35 and that was right after the fights got out, it points to another small piece of information. “It is possible the driver was at that event,” Fike said. ”And if this person wasn’t alone, and we believe they weren’t alone, that passenger would have a big interest in coming forward. If they don’t come forward and notify the authorities, they will be held as liable as the driver.” If you have any information about this incident please call Troop I at 580-338-3366. “If they want to report information anonymously they can also do that by calling that number,” Fike said.
