Update: My meeting with Spectrum Charter Schools CEO produced a new supporter, new grant resources and links to a homeless student advocate group in North Carolina. Ill be attending their webinars about the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act in the very near future. In addition, Ill be able to depend on her for operational The very same day, I was able to welcome our treasurer, who is a very talented professional at UPMC. Ill be releasing her name and bio information within the next week. With this position filled, I can submit my 501c3 application to the IRS. I am beyond confident that I can succeed with this founding team. The next week will be busy as well. On Monday, Im meeting with a prominent charter school in Pittsburgh. Im seeking advice regarding building acquisition and facility issues. This is my first of many steps to successfully purchase one of the two school buildings I have in mind. Next, Ill have to revise my business plan to submit an application to the school district for one of the buildings I have my eyes on. The competition is stacked, but Im throwing my hat in the ring since my vision is the most ideal for the community. If that seems a bit overconfident, Ill be presenting statistics over the next week to make my case and let you know why this is the most important issue affecting our local future. Finally, I will start the preschool application process for Urban Light Academy. I dont have a timeline for completion, but I still intend to open the school by September 2015 educating between 80-100 foster children.
