Update Ruthie: Sunday July 13th-- sorry for taking so long to post an update we were hoping if we waited a few days the news would be more positive ,unfortunately it isnt. Here we go: Tuesday, the doctors met with us to review some of the test Ruthie has been going through the biopsy of the chest, and ostomy shows acute chronic rejection(we knew this from prior tests) the rejection is not getting better, then again its not getting worse, the endoscope of the esophagus shows server open acid like alterations throughout.. This open area is causing the burning of the chest ,stomach, could be causing the sharp pains in to the left arm its 100% alcer so she cant eat or drink without experiencing pain, Now she had a triple lumen central port in her left arm a triple was set so they could use one for feeding tudes two for pain meds antibiotics and 3rd for blood returns.. On Tuesday they sent Ruthie for these cat scan of the head, chest, and stomach areas- unfortunately they found addetional issues.Though upper chest area they realized that her left arm was full of blood clots surrounding the actual central line-- worried that the blood clots can travel has us very concerned. They sent her to the IR department (internal radiology )to relocate the central line.. Michael Park MD the head of I.R. knows Ruthie very well he was extremely concerned about the blood clots, because she dont really have access anywhere, else after several attempts mike was able to place a temporary line on her right arm. However its only a double alunimun one for feeding and 2nd for everything else blood, antibiotics and so forth its very difficult he had to balloon the line because its restricted, most lines go through your arm up to your chest across to your heart .Hers is completely blocked into her chest,so we put the line from her right arm up to the chests and around her neck to the heart only a handful of people have done this done....... On top of the bloodclots throughout the left- Blocked on the right, more issues have come up... after constant texting she has been diagnosed with her organ donors CMV ..Ruthie was CMV negative during the transplant, her donor was CMV positive. We knew that from the beginning but it was under control. .. Now-- her donors CMV is creating havoc on Ruthies immune system and now Ruthie is CMV positive (not contagious) this causes infections, because the virus resides in cells, and causes enlargement of the liver, problems with the pancreas and fatal illness, and vision problems.... Complications of the CMV is abnormal pain, blood in stool, liver, lungs, brain, eyes, and heavy deep muscle pain, weakness ,confusion, and unable to focus, her sugar levels are still bouncing high and low using insulin every 4 hrs, her blood pressure is still on the high side but at least its being controlled! The swelling continues especially in her chest ,arms, and hips, they held off on the Lasiks, because her numbers are too high and its affecting her kidneys, Through all this there was a test performed on her to check her white blood cells ,were still confused on exactly how it works but the level should be between 1 and 100 Ruthies level is 3000 which is a critical level. Her body is no longer producing the white cells to fight back they did another cross match so most likely will be doing additional blood transfusion soon.Ruthie knows this is a lot to tell her family and friends...however she needs your prayers, support, and understanding to help her to fight on..... She wants everyone to know-- but she also wants everyone to talk to her about everyday issues the weather, family, funny jokes and so forth, when on the phone or in cards... She wants to hear all good things-- ~~SMILE~~ can be contagious........Ruth Baer
