Update Sept 27 Walter is resting a lot today. He has had so much activity the last few days, moving around the house, and being in the back yard, that I think in his poor condition, he has worn himself out. Walter is gaining weight, but there are so many of his bodys systems that were stressed by being starved and mangy, that it is a slow process to turn the body around into a healthy metabolism and to stop the body from cannibalizing his own organs for nourishment.. I feed him the Costco Brand Puppy Kibble which has a 4 out of 5 dog food rating and also the Costco Brand Turkey Stew in the Red Can which has a 5 out of 5 dog food rating, so believe that is a good food for Walter. He is gradually eating a little more, and although he looks round when he lays down, he still is somewhat boney when he stands up. I checked out Walters feet a little more closely and I believe that at least one perhaps two of the nail beds have a pretty severe fungal/bacterial infection festering in there. The skin at the nail root, above the nail itself, is spongy to the touch and that is never a good sign. May be part of the reason he walks so gingerly. We will be off to the vet on Monday to get him checked out. He has been on 2 antibiotics but think he may need to stay on them longer or perhaps a stronger one is needed. I am sure our wonderful vet, Kristine Hawkins will have a good plan for Walter and his spongy toes. If I missed you at Petsmart today, it was my fault because I was really late. After 1.30pm by the time I got there with my doggies. Sorry!
