Update: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 - 12:30am Residents should seek high ground as heavy rain continues. Deputies are responding to priority one calls at this time. Do not attempt to drive. Late Tuesday night, Escambia County was placed under a local state of emergency as a response to the severe weather front that has impacted the County. Escambia County Emergency Management is asking people not to drive if possible on Wednesday. Localized flooding may have damaged roads and bridges. Also, storm debris can pose another serious safety threat to drivers. The following offices have been closed on Wednesday: • Escambia County Board of County Commissioners (only essential employees are required to report for work) • 1st Judicial Circuit Court in Escambia County • The Escambia County School System • The University of West Florida • The Escambia County Property Appraiser’s Office Additional office and/or school closures may be made before the start of the business day on Wednesday. Escambia County’s Public Safety, Roads Division and Public Works Department will be working throughout the day to repair roads to allow for safe travel. Residents in Escambia County that need non-emergency assistance can call the Citizens Information Center at 850-471-6600.
