Update at 2:30 pm 9/15/2014 Fire to the north/west of us 3-5 miles. Dog Bar fire. Containment went up, minimal fire behavior reported on the Dog Bar Fire. 75% contained/ 100 personal left fighting/ 247 aces burned and 6 structures lost. Evacuees are let back home. Some people and equipment going to King Fire. Much larger fire to the east of us. The King Fire. King, Amador-El Dorado Unit, Cal Fire. IMT 1 (Giachino). Eleven miles east of Placerville, CA. 15 miles from us. Timber and grass. Active fire behavior with long-range spotting. Numerous residences and energy infrastructure threatened. Evacuations in effect.Three ambulances requested, on standby. Also, 5 cases of water, to help with dehydration. 3,9000 aces. 10% contained/ Two heavy airtankers and two S2 tankers (88 and 89 from Grass Valley) are currently over the fire, assisting the over 1,000 firefighters. Visibility is limited due to the heavy smoke laying over the fire. 806 personal on that fire. At 1:49 today Twelve firefighters were overrun by the fire, had to retreat to a safety zone and deploy their shelters. All 12 are accounted for, after some harrowing walking uphill with their shelters and a ballet of helicopters trying to cool down the fire. They were guided to safety by air attack and are being extracted via helicopter. Two heavy airtankers and two S2 tankers (88 and 89 from Grass Valley) are currently over the fire, assisting the over 1,000 firefighters. Visibility is limited due to the heavy smoke laying over the fire. Tankers are trying to reinforce and extend the retardant line they have been working on all morning. The line is designed to keep the fire from burning back onto the homes.Current Situation: The King Fire is located in the canyon of the South Fork of the American River, northeast of the community of Pollock Pines. The fire is currently traveling to the east/northeast, with a rapid rate of spread. Please pray for the First Responders and the residents and animals of these areas.
