Update for Alex Lovett, 9/24/2014 Very early wake-up call in the Lovett household today as we had to be at Grandview Hospital at 6 am! We met with the surgeon again yesterday afternoon, to finalize the surgery plans, and today Alex had an equinovarus reconstruction on his left leg and foot, with placement of an external fixator. That is a fancy way of saying he had lengthening of the tendons in his left lower leg, ankle and heel; then a big metal cage was attached onto his lower leg with pins into his skin. We will adjust the metal cage at 6 different “struts” over a 28 day period; this will slowly place his foot into a neutral position. Then the cage will remain in place for an additional 2 months for a total of 3 months altogether. He will be unable to bear weight on this leg for the entire 3 months. It is going to be a challenging time, but the end result will be worth it……. He should be able to walk much better with his foot flat on the floor, and a brace will fit him better. We have been home a few hours, and so far, so good! Hoping for a restful night for all! Thank you so much for all your continued prayers! Love to all, Mary
