Update for all those following my Pathfinder saga (the rest of yall can skip this): Jan, 2013, I couldnt get the service engine light to stay off to get a sticker. Butch took it to SpeeDee and they said it needed a new exhaust, all new sensors and more to the tune of $4200. Since we had just dropped $4K to put a new engine in his Traker, and since I wasnt working and didnt really need daily wheels, it stayed in the parking lot all year as we contemplated our next move. Last Fall, with the car still in the parking lot, I asked Butch why he was so quick to jump at buying a car we could barely afford when I was ready to find something cheaper. He said, I took one look at it and thought, This will keep her safe. If she has to drive through a snowstorm to open the gym or go anywhere else, this will get her there. So, while everyone was asking me why I didnt, just get rid of it, now you know what was going on in my mind. Fast forward to this Summer. I had AAA tow it to Route One Automotive. I said, I need a sticker on this car. Take a look at it and tell me what you think. Im pretty sure it needs exhaust work. I dont need it right away and I know its going to cost money but this is my baby and it has to get done. Butch and I knew all of the sensors had been replaced in the past 2 years (before we got it) so we had wanted to get another estimate. Still thinking that it needed exhaust work, I was hoping to get the price down to $3500. About a month later, they got it back to me... ONE sensor, an air filter, brake lines replaced, new battery. Total? $900!! I told the owner that SpeeDee had quoted us $4200. The customer who was sitting there and supposedly minding his own business suddenly blurted out, HOLY SHIT! The owner said, I took one look at the exhaust and couldnt figure out why you said it needed to be replaced. Hmmm. Where do you think Im going for all of my future repairs?
