Update from Rome Police: On October 9th, 2014 Rome Police responded to a Syracuse hospital following a report of an infant with serious injuries being admitted. It was further reported that the child was first taken to Rome Hospital and because of the severity of the injuries, medical professionals made the decision to transfer the child to the Syracuse area hospital. Detectives with the Rome Police Department and Oneida County Child Advocacy Center along with Child Protective Service’s immediately began an investigation. It was learned that the child, a 10 week old female, had sustained very serious injuries to her head and eye. The child’s parents were interviewed and provided police with particulars on how the child became injured. Based on the nature of the child’s injuries, the information that the parents provided to police raised suspicion. Police also determined that there was an active order of protection in place ordering the child’s father to stay away from the child’s mother. The father, identified as 22 year-old Nicholas A. Lusby was taken into custody for violating the protection order. Lusby is also facing charges relating to a theft which had occurred in Rome during mid-2014. Lusby is currently being held in Oneida County Jail on those charges. At this point in the investigation of the injured infant, there have been no arrests made. The investigation is on-going and further information will be released when it becomes available.
