Update from the NZ Venture Capital Association, things are looking very positive in New Zealand: The recent exceptionally positive outlook reported in the EY & NZVCA PE & VC Monitor foretold a busy year for private equity. And recent announcements confirm a busy second half coming up. Scales Corporation has announced a NZX main board listing planned for July. Direct Capital bought its Scales stake through the receivership of South Canterbury Finance and currently owns 84 percent of the company. Direct Capital is expected to keep about 20 percent after the listing. Other IPO activity, especially new tech stocks, is adding to the sense that the gates are open. Recent announcements included Serko and Genetrack. In the early stage market the sale of Green Button to Microsoft was a significant win for local investors. There is nothing that excites more than a good return and many of those investors will be back for more.
