Update on Jims cancer and our visit to the oncologist for the MRI - TopicsExpress

Update on Jims cancer and our visit to the oncologist for the MRI results. The tumor is down to 5 from 9cm and blood work went from a CEA count of 49 to a normal person level of 2.2. Hes going to finish the 3 weeks of heavy chemo and then do it PET scan to get a good placement of it and how much is alive. THEN send it to U of M and they will make the final call. Odds are leaning towards surgery right now but there are some ifs because there is so much involved in the area. After the oncologist I took Raven to the vet and her bladder stone is shrinking too! She does have another bladder infection which is to be expected with her situation. She will stay on the script food another month and we will see. In other words nothing is decided on anyone! UGH! Jims situation does seem to be pretty damn promising though. The CEA count which is a blood count and an abnormal level of CEA may be a sign of cancer, specifically colon/rectal cancer. Jims was 38.8 when we found it this time and by the time we started chemo it was 49.8! Today it was 2.2 which is probably lower then MINE or YOURS! That is a great sign that the tumor is dying! His bladder is no longer involved and that is better then they dared give up hope about! I know its just a matter of time and even at the worst case today the doctor told us that if it could not be removed they would lower the chemo dose and he would have to have it every 2 weeks but he would have years! She was clear that is NOT what she feels it will come to but as she said, she is on oncologist not a surgeon so she could not say certainly one way or the other but...She definitely thinks surgery is where were heading. That means were looking at being cancer free in the near future! HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
