Update on Mikaela We got news today after Mikaelas MRI that she needs to go for emergency surgery tomorrow as she has a tumor on the left frontal part of her brain. The tumor is measuring 5 cm by 4 cm wide, its surrounded by blood so they dont know what the size is of the tumor from the measurements until they do surgery or how deep the tumor goes. If we wait and dont do surgery now she has a high risk of being paralyzed as the tumor is pressing on the motor skills. Theyre amazed that Mikaela is singing, dancing wanting to play with the size of the tumor and pressure that is showing in the MRI scan. They are continuing to give her steroids to keep the pressure/inflammation down plus help her with the nauseousness. She wont tell you shes in pain but I can tell by the way she acts even during fun times, she will cover ears or eyes as sound and light bother her as she has a continuous headache all the time but the medication just helps to relieve pain but Mikaela has allows been able to refocus her pain until she cant hide it. What a brave, courages, fun loving little girl she is to her family, friends and all the new ones she makes her at the IWK. Shes been stopping by other patients rooms with her siblings wanting to see if they wanted to go to the playroom or sing for them. Shes been sing the songs from frozen Let it go and Do you want to build a snowman, Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and a Taylor Swift song Blank space, shes a beautiful singer. She came out of her room to find me and she grabbed my hand and stated Mommy Im worried about you!, I told her dont worry about old Mom I will be OK, Im just having a Mommy moment. Even after what shes going through she continues to worry about me. We dont have a time at this moment as theyre still getting all the details ironed out with the available OR times as they need between 8 hours of surgery time, which 4-5 hours will be to remove the tumor. It will take 7-10 days to find out what type of cancer it is. We are pray it isnt a tumor but the doctor stated it is a tumor, then we pray its a secondary type of cancer that they can treat by chemotherapy and not a untreatable type of brain tumor. If its comes back Neuroblastoma then their is nothing they can do for her but help her with the pain and to try to give her more time by slowing it down with chemo. Mikaela and her siblings been playing and making crafts in the playroom today and having a good time together. Mikaela continues to play with her friends on the ward and also shes been sing for them too! I know you all have been following Mikaela, if I could ask a favor would you please send, share, add her to a prayer list or call a friend and ask if they could pray for our precious Mikaela. We have seen the POWER OF PRAY, Miracles do happen! GOD BLESS YOU ALL for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. Mikaela one of a kind!!
