Update on #Mphwiyo shooting case: Former minister of justice Raphael Kasambara has told the high court in Lilongwe that the motor vehicle used by former budget director, Paul Mphwiyo on the day he was shot might have been a stolen vehicle. It follows Mphwiyo’s statement in the same court on Wednesday that the vehicle was sold because it was giving him bad memories. Kasambara’s lawyer Wapona Kita said the sold vehicle, Toyota Fortuner registration number ZA 7171, is crucial to identifying the people who shoot Mphwiyo. Mphwiyo responded that the Toyota Fortuner belonged to a trust in which his wife was a member to. Contrary to Mphwiyos statement, Kasambara told the court that Mphwiyo sold the car because it was being tracked down by International Police following reports that it was stolen. Kasambara added that officials at the Road Traffic Department failed to produce registration documents of the vehicle following his visit to their offices earlier this morning. Meanwhile, prosecution of the case is still underway at the court with the defense taking their time to cross-examine the prime witness to the shooting Mphwiyo.
