Update on Richard Dee Long, sorry this is so long but alot happened today: Richard had to go back into surgery this afternoon. His fever was still 104 and a CT scan revealed he had fluid everywhere and it was leaking from his incision. The surgeon cleaned lots of infection from behind the incision and put a wound vac on it. He made it through okay but had to have his heart shocked during surgery due to A fib. The surgeon and the cardiologists talked to us afterwards. Dr says this is just a hiccup in the road and his heart is still doing fine. They do want to find out what caused the infection and go forward from there. It is possible it may be an ischemic bowel but preliminary findings indicate it is not. They will watch it closely all weekend. Dr also thinks they will do the tracheotomy Monday. We have known all along the lungs would be a problem and the infection and fluid have just made it impossible for him to be weened from the breathing tube for now. He says we have about a week to make up for due to the fever, infection and second surgery but he is still very positive about everything. Again all the prayers and encouraging words are appreciated by our family
