Update on The Ringing House: November 4, 2013 - Department of Public Works repaired broken bleeder valve that was leaking. I saw the broken (unable to fully close, gritty valve). I saw water in the hole. DPW also knocked 8x12x1 piece of wood jammed tight between my adjoining sewer line (adjoining with neighbor with sump pump and water in basement most of the time). I could hear his sump pump running in my house through the sewer (loudly). They filled it in between with softer dirt than what was there before (stoney crusher run type material). I no longer hear the piercing ringing due to the leaking water main, my front porch is dry for the first time since I moved here one and 1/2 years ago and I no longer hear Ray and Marianne Gemmels sump pump or water running in my house. November 13, 2013 - Saint Lawrence, Enbridge Gas installed and moved a new gas service from the street to my home. Cleaned the main in the street and took extra careful measures to sound dampen the pipes with special tape wrapped thickly and evenly around the main gas line; a beautiful job. That line looked brand new! We shoveled soft dirt around the gas line as well to deaden any sound from the pipe. Gas men also installed a complete new plastic, state-of-the art, gas line to my house with a new meter stabilization works. Its a piece of artwork, done so beautifully they even painted it for me. They also pulled the old steel gas line out of the ground at my request. it so happened that the steel gas line was encased with cement going through the foundation and the contractor added more cement to the gas line at another juncture when he installed the crawl space cement entrance this summer, possibly compounding the problem. On November 13, 2013 I fell asleep at 10pm and woke up at 7am. I got The first full 8 hours sleep without interuption since April 29, 2013. The vibrations have stopped. On November 14, 2013 - The chirping has dead stopped. There is no chirping in my house at all. I do not know what to attribute this to. i may never really know. maybe the chirper was thrown into my chimney to repel squirrels and it has finally died, maybe it is live crickets living in the walls 9 I see no evidence of this and i have bug bombed top to bottom and the yards), maybe it had something to do with the gas, sewer, water? maybe the ground is frozen and I will hear it again when the ground softens up in the spring? right now though all is quiet except for the normal, comforting noises of a friendly old house.
