Update on last night’s School Committee Meeting…Approval of RTN donation of backpack supplies to the Plympton Elementary School. Approval of Hobbs Brook Management donation of $4,000 to support the trip to China for Asst. Super and Director of Fine Arts. Approval of Main Street Marketplace Highland Hustle 5K donation of $1,000 for 2015 Waltham High School Health and Wellness Fair. Approval of donation of $1,000 from Watertown Savings Bank for FinishSTRONG Program at Waltham High. Approval of donation from Target’s Take Charge of Education Program of $184.59 for an app for Student Council. Approval of donation from D. von Rechenberg to Music Department for keyboard. Approval of donation from Raytheon of $1,000 to McDevitt Middle School. Approval (separately) of donations of school supplies for staff and students from the Waltham Women’s Club and Dassault Systemes to Stanley Elementary. Approval of donation from Shaw’s of $400 to McDevitt Middle for We Love Our Schools program. Discussion and approval to have Director of Facilities meet with MacArthur Playground Committee regarding plans for new playground at school. Presentation by Director of New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. on preparation requirements for accreditation of high school in 2016. Decisions to keep Central Office at current location at this time to focus more on the problems of space in elementary schools first. Request to have SMMA Architects work with HS principal and appropriate staff regarding location of culinary arts and cosmetology programs in school. Update on Bandwidth in Middle Schools that exceed and meet standards to accommodate new iPads. Request to get information on high school bandwidth. Waltham Partnership for Youth presentation discussing substance abuse issues in city and how organization plans on working on youth summit. Approval of 2015 School Committee Calendar. Approval of Waltham School Administrators Association contract. Approval to transfer Capital Improvement Funds to purchase two new maintenance vehicles for School Facilities to replace two vans of older age which will not pass inspection this year. Approval of Superintendent of Schools Search flyer, search meetings and wording of search committee to start process by October 1st. Note: During short discussion regarding modular classrooms, I did ask the question regarding safety issues surrounding modular classrooms that a few of you asked me to bring up after our meeting on Tuesday.
