Update on leatherback sea turtle stranded on the beach near Ramp - TopicsExpress

Update on leatherback sea turtle stranded on the beach near Ramp 4, Oregon Inlet. A necropsy was performed on the beach yesterday, Thursday, August 18th by the Outer Banks Marine Mammal Stranding Network. The massive sea turtle, a female, weighed about 573 lbs. and had a flipper tag from Trinidad. The preliminary results showed some sort of rubber object or obstruction in the intestinal track of the turtle. These are only preliminary results provided by a member of the stranding team. A full assessment of the necropsy will take longer to complete. It is important to remember, the information collected during the necropsy will help provide valuable information in the protection of all sea turtles. If you should have further questions about sea turtles, please visit the Outer Banks Marine Mammal Stranding Net work or Network for Endangered Sea Turtles, (N.E.S.T.) to see how you can volunteer and help save sea turtles. https://sites.google/site/obxmmsn/ or nestonline.org/
