Update on meeting with former 20/20 producer: Interesting meeting. He wanted to know what surprised me most about men who cheat on their wives. There were/are so many things but my mind kept returning to the same thoughts so I shared those with him: “He will take phone calls from his wife when he is in bed with you and talk blandly about what’s on the menu for dinner that evening. He may even chat with his children and sign off with the obligatory: “I love you, too.” “He will get home promptly at 5:30pm as he is supposed to.” “He will take his family out to dinner and call you to tell you he is thinking about you before the meal is served.” “You inevitably end up knowing much more than you ever want to know about his wife.” This intrigued him, so he queried me further. “Such as?” “He will tell you how her body compares to yours and that yours is better. He will tell you what they do and don’t do in bed. He will share things with you that he won’t share with her because somewhere along the line you have become his best friend.” “If he is going out of town on vacation with the family, he will book a flight for you too. And, once they check into their hotel, he will run to the other hotel where you are staying and tell you how annoying she was during the flight.” He asked me if I thought there was anything a wife could do to stop her husband from cheating. I replied: “Castration, no phone access, no internet access, no access to the outside world might work.” This would be for a documentary where I am the sole woman being interviewed about those brutal years in my life – but I haven’t said yes, yet.
