Update on my dad --- Today at about eleven this morning my dad went into surgery. The anesthesiologist came in first and told me of all my dads known medical problems, a few I hadnt heard before (that my dad had kept to himself). The basic message was that this was a last ditch resort to save his life and that there should be no expectations of good results, given the many severe problems he has. Off he went to surgery, then several hours later I spoke with the doctor. I hadnt expected my dad to live through the surgery, to be honest; I expected the very worst. I was therefore very relieved when the doctor told me that the surgery had gone very well and that my dad was doing fine (relatively speaking) in the recovery room. About an hour later I met with Norm but he really didnt have his wits together and didnt really comprehend what had happened. I explained that his leg was gone. So, at this point, he seems to be over the hump. He survived the trauma of a terrible surgery -- having lost his leg to just above the knee. It is our hope now that he will recover from this trauma and that we can get his numerous other medical issues under control. Hes a strong man, but also a beaten down man. He has been suffering terribly for a long, long time. Keep my dad in your prayers, and keep sending those good vibes -- they worked well today. He has many struggles to come in the next days and weeks and is in a very serious fight for his life. My mother is taking this well and we all appreciate your concern, comments, and well wishes -- and I have relayed this to my dad. I will provide updates when I have new information to share.
