Update on my son Isaac. I just copied and pasted this, from private message sent to friend earlier. And for those who have asked, here it is in a nutshell~Ive been staying in his room since Oct 25th, to save money, rather than staying in guest room..It hasnt been bad for me. Hes got mucositis, raw, swollen orals, mouth, esophagus, probably whole GI tract...from radiation/chemo. But, had to be done. Some of swelling going down. Just cant eat, drinking ensure, and that even hurts. Its been like this for 8 days now! Stem cells from donor, were given on 11/1. Grafting of those cells will take place any day over the next 5 days. Well be watching for Graft vrs Host (GVH) disease once grafting begins. Its not about my sons body excepting the new DNA, its about the new DNA excepting him. This is obviously the biggest concern. Can be very mild GVH to fatal. Once he shows grafting w/o complications, then those cells will produce RBC, WBC, platelets, plasma, everything that gives life to his organs/body. Once the cell numbers are up to normals, then he will discharge into apartments down the street for about 2 months. Our insurance is going to help with this expense, thank God, we had an advocate be our voice to the insurance company. Ive not worked since August. John had cancer removed from ear 2 wks ago, and that expense out of pocket, were still hoping to get relief on. Iz just said, tell your friend Im pretty miserable right now. He was asking what I was doing, lol. Anyway, you know how it is with sick kids/family and hospitals. It can eat your lunch, and tear your heart out at the same time. Im headed out for a daily walk.
