Update on the Seattle trip w/ Gabe yesterday: after such a long wait to get into the autism center, we finally got to have our appt yesterday morning...it didnt go as I had hoped and was told that Gabe doesnt have what would be considered autism from the Nurse Practitioners clinical point of view. I basically told him outright that I felt he was wrong bcuz I am around Gabe 24 hrs/day(w/ the exception of when hes @ school)and I am the one who takes care of him and goes w/ him to EVERY single one of his Drs appts when needed. I know how his behavior is on a daily basis. I spend more time w/ him than anyone else does. I had all the documentation I needed w/ me and even had the NP take copies of the stuff I had brought that shows he is on the spectrum and the NP STILL wouldnt listen to me! Gabe has had thorough testing from school and he has been receiving speech therapy @ school since he started going @ 3 yrs of age! He has also gone through OT and is going to start receiving services for that @ school after I have the meeting w/ the school psychologist and the OT specialist and his teachers on friday afternoon. He had speech & OT @ the kadlec health plex during the summer. Gabe has ALOT of autistic characteristics in his behavior - even w/ him having the ADHD/ODD. So I am going to have a cpl more referrals sent out for him so I can get a 4th and/or maybe 5th opinion and see an MD NOT an NP.
