Update on the mutilated black lab Candy, The vet examined the dog - TopicsExpress

Update on the mutilated black lab Candy, The vet examined the dog this morning. The injuries around her neck are from an imbedded collar injury. The injury down her back is a burn, could be chemical or thermal (touching the bottom of a hot vehicle); it has begun to heal estimated the injury is about 10 days old. As with all rescue dogs-it is like picking up a mystery novel and having skipped the first several chapters, it is not determinable how the injury was gotten or whether it was deliberate. Course of care will be a topical ointment and oral antibiotics. Thanking you for getting the word out so that I have the opportunity to aide in her recovery and a happy ending. Something that really bothers me in rescue is that the word "abuse" is bandied about much too often. Nobody can imagine themselves or someone they know "abusing" a dog. Neglect is much more prevalent and in my mind insidious. People make all kinds of excuses for themselves and others about why they "neglect" their pets. Not as inflammatory but to me much more dangerous. We all know someone who neglects a pet. Anyway I will post today on our group page for "name ideas" and let you know what the consensus is-hoping this girl will be up for adoption within a month or so. Thanks so much. Chris
