Update since surgery! Aj is better each day. We saw the breast - TopicsExpress

Update since surgery! Aj is better each day. We saw the breast surgeon yesterday and the plastic surgeon today. The drains are out! Yea! The pathology reports were not what we expected. Good news is that the primary tumor shrank a great deal. There were cancer cells in 5 out of 15 lymph nodes. Those were all removed. The margins are good, meaning they got it all. On the very first biopsy (back in September 2013)the tumor was NOT HER2 positive. It has now mutated and IS HER2 positive. This means that Aj will begin Herceptin infusions once a week for 12 weeks and then once every 3 weeks for another year. We see the oncologist next week. Not sure of the timing of all this and how it does or doesnt change the schedule. Radiation is to begin in the next month or so. I guess they can do the Herceptin and radiation at the same time. This may be too much info for some! If you want to know more about HER2 positive, google and read the Mayo Clinic info. It sums it up pretty well. Aj is now considered triple positive in medical terminology. We are thankful and blessed to live in a time that medicine has advanced tremendously and there are successful treatments now and new developments all the time. There are so many of you to thank for your prayers, food, gifts, calls and encouraging words. Our family is grateful beyond words!
