Update to phone outage in Western NC: 2:15 pm - We just received information that Clay County lines are all down. In the event of an emergency, Clay County (and Cherokee County) residents may try calling (828) 835-3144, 835-3945, 837-7405 or 837-7455 for assistance until service returns to normal. We understand that local landline to landline phones are working, cellphone to cellphone calls are working, but not cellphone to landline or cellphone to 911 calls. Again, this is due to a cut communications line in the Balsam area of western NC. Repair time is estimated to be 4 to 5 hours.
