Update to the Arrest of Murder Suspect Darryl Warren: At about 1:50 a.m. this morning we received a call from a probation officer with the Department of Corrections regarding a possible homicide at 3033 Melrose Avenue South. According to the probation officer, he had received a call from a relative of Darryl Warren who was under the Department of Corrections supervision after being released from prison in April of this year. Warren had been serving a twenty-five year term for Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Child Abuse and Grand Theft stemming from an incident that occurred in October of 1993. He was sentenced in July 1995 in Pinellas County. According to the probation officer, he was told by the relative that he had spoken to Warren on the phone and was told by him that he had murdered his wife. Officers arriving on the scene observed a 2004 blue Chevrolet Cavalier parked near the house and as they approached on foot, the car sped past them failing to stop upon their command. Officers were able to identify Darryl Warren as the driver, but efforts to re locate the car after it fled the area were unsuccessful. Going to the house, officers found the doors locked and had to force entry. Once inside they found Barbara Warren lying on the floor with her body showing evidence of blunt force trauma. She was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene by responding paramedics. A state wide alert was posted and as noted previously, Darryl Warren was located in Flagler County at about 6:00 a.m. this morning. As we understand it at this time Darryl and Barbara Warren were married in August of this year although its not clear how long they knew each other before then. We have no record of any prior disputes or other police reported activity between them.
