Updated Severe weather watch from metservice (Squid) SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 2001hrs 08-Jul-2014 STORMY WEATHER FOR NORTHERN NEW ZEALAND A low just northwest of the North Island is expected to remain slow-moving tonight and during Wednesday, while slowly weakening.This low is forecast to bring further heavy rain to Northland as well as severe easterly gales to Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula, and a warning is in force for these regions. This Watch is for possible severe easterly gales over eastern Waikato near the Kaimai Range from this evening till midnight Wednesday. Periods of heavy rain are likely over northern parts of Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula, including Great Barrier Island, until Wednesday evening. Rainfall amounts look like falling short of meeting warning criteria in these areas, but a Watch will be maintained. MetService forecasters will continue to monitor the situation, and people in these areas are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case a full warning becomes necessary.
