The truck was carrying a cleaning solution made of water and ammonia salt. Crews worked quickly to contain those chemicals from entering local streams after attempts to stop the leak failed. We went into defensive mode of actually damming, dyking and trying to keep that material from getting into any of the local waterways, said Branden Diehl, from Saxton Fire Department. Were monitoring the conditions, ensuring the material does not spread. State police worked to reconstruct the crash. Troopers say the driver reported having engine problems, although its not clear if that is what caused the crash. For some unknown reason [the driver] lost control, crossed Route 26 and came to rest outside of the building. Fortunately the building is unoccupied [and] there was no structural damage to it. The blessing is that no other cars were involved in the accident either, Diehl said. Crews told 6 News the driver managed to pull himself from the truck. He was taken to Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring, then flown to UPMC Altoona, where he was admitted as an observation patient.
