Updated news from The KSP: Early this morning at 6:00am Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call about a fatal collision on U.S.119 in the Rosspoint community of Harlan County. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1978 Mack dump truck operated by 60 year old William Caldwell, of Bledsoe was traveling North on U.S.119 in the slow lane when a 2007 Chevrolet Impala struck the dump truck in the rear. The operator of the Impala, 40 year old Tracey Rapier of Evarts was transported to Harlan County ARH for injuries. The passenger, 41 year old Donald P. Tarbell of Coxton was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner, Jim Rich. Neither occupants were wearing their seatbelts. .Mr. Tarbell was removed from the vehicle by Harlan County Rescue Squad by mechanical means. Mr. Caldwell did not receive any injuries from the collision. Collision is still under investigation by Tpr. Mike Cornett. ------------- Last night just after 8pm. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call about a shooting on Dunham Lane in the Gray community of Knox County. Preliminary investigation indicates that 43 year old Gwendolyn Smith, of Gray had been involved in a verbal dispute with her neighbor. Mrs. Smith then pulled out a handgun shooting 43 year old Jason Marsee of Gray in the leg. Marsee was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time. Smith was arrested and charged with assault 1st degree and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Investigation is continuing by KSP Det.
