Upon waking, I quickly downloaded a list of some of the words commonly used in the cosmetic industry for women. Weve used these words so often that we dont even hear them anymore. Whatever source sent these to me, wanted us to be aware how the words used to describe these items are disempowering and derogatory....No wonder we can feel lacking in confidence if we don’t MAKE UP. To start, Ive put the commonly used word in caps, then the homophone (a word that is pronounced the same way but has different meaning) or similar word is shown. DYE = DIE A shaman in Peru taught me that our HAIR is a reflection of our personal power. When we DIE OUR HAIR, we send a subliminal message of death to our personal power because our natural personal power is aging, frizzy, greying, whitening, boring, too dark, drab, etc. Eye SHADOW Our eyes are known as the window to our souls, yet we must use a Shadow to cover or darken our vision, which is our inherent Intuition. There is an amazing book The Dark Side of the Light Chasers that teaches us that our Shadow is our darkness and nothing to be feared. “You must go into the dark in order to bring forth your light. When we suppress any feeling or impulse, we are also suppressing its polar opposite. If we deny our ugliness, we lessen our beauty. If we deny our fear, we minimize our courage. If we deny our greed, we also reduce our generosity. Our full magnitude is more than most of us can ever imagine.” - The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, Deborah Ford MASCARA = Mask Care of… Our eyelashes were created to protect our eyes from debris, but have become a mark of beauty. When ‘masking the care of lashes’, the lashes cant breathe and the dried mascara can attract dirt and bacteria instead. BLUSH = Red cheeks are a sign of blushing The definition of Blush in the dictionary is from embarrassment or shame. LIPSTICK = Stick The definition is to stop or kill something. The lips are our vehicle of communication enabling us to enunciate and self-express. To use our voice and speak our truth. Also lipstick has been linked to cancer! CONCEALER = Conceal her Conceal means the need to hide, or withdrawl from sight, or to keep secret. Commonly known as COVER UP. BOTOX = Creates an EXPRESSIONLESS face - What is Botox? A neurotoxin causing botulism (a sometimes fatal disease of the nervous system acquired from spoiled foods) is injected into the face to prevent wrinkles. Our Feminine aspect encourages us to be emotional, yet we should not have ‘crow’s feet’ or ‘worry lines’. Our face should not reflect our journey. I am by no means slamming the use of make-up, I love the ability to enhance and be creative myself. I feel this message was sent so we could Wake Up rather than Make Up - to appreciate our Natural Beauty and incorporate more empowering positive words & messages to ourselves on a daily basis, especially in what might be a daily ritual.
