Upper Wharf Street, Salford Newsletter Multi-agency meeting On Friday 14 February, Salford City Council hosted a multi-agency meeting to clarify the latest situation on the site. Representatives from the Environment Agency, the Council, local Councillors, the office of Hazel Blears MP, GM Fire and Rescue, GM Police, the Residents Association, Salford University and the sites land owners took part in the meeting. Waste mounds We inspected the site on Monday 17 February and found progress on removing the remaining mound of waste had been interrupted by machine breakdown and the recent adverse weather conditions. We have informed the operator that progress on removing the second mound of waste must be improved. Removing this mound of waste must be their highest priority to reduce the risk of odours and pest problems in the area. As the second mound is moved, there is a risk that smells from the site will affect the local area. We will monitor the situation and will expect the operator to install odour suppression equipment if needed. Pest Management Plan The operator is producing a pest management plan which must be submitted for our approval. This plan is to make sure that they take all reasonable steps to avoid pest problems. It will also make sure they have effective plans to deal with pests, including flies, if they should occur. Current Action We are continuing to inspect the site once a week to make sure progress is being made with removing the waste. During our inspections, we continue to explain to the operator what work is still 21 February 2014 needed to bring the site back into compliance with its permit. The site is still limited to a tightly controlled incoming tonnage limit Newsletter If you know of anyone else who you think would want to receive this newsletter, please ask them to contact Laura Travers on 07917 580 679 or [email protected] and we will add them to the circulation list. Please also contact Laura if you currently receive the newsletter by post and you would rather receive it by email, if you want to be removed from the circulation list, or would like further details. Incident Hotline Please report any odour or pest problems in the local area to our 24 hour incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60. Reports to the hotline help us to assess the impact the site is having in the area. Your report will then be sent on to the appropriate person. UNCLASSIFIED
