Ustād Dr. Maḥmūd Kellner, born as Martin Kellner, 1971 in Bad Ischl, Austria. After his studies in Subjects like Ethnology, Arabic, Turkology, Psychology und Sociology at the University of Vienna he received his Diploma with very good marks (title of his writing for his diplom was: Missions and limits of Medicine in islamic Jurispudence). After that he moved to Damascus, Syria. After taking a course in Arabic in Damascus he started his studies of the Islamic Sciences at one of the most famous and renowned Highschools of Islam - Ma’had al-Fatḥ, school of the famous Shaykh Salih al-Farfūr, may Allahs mercy be upon him. He finished his studies in ʿAqīdah, Fiqh, Uṣūl, Tajwīd, Akhlaq, Arabic etc. in five years. He spent 10 years of his life in Syria, Damascus, to study with local scholars. In his last two years of his study at Mahad al-Fatḥ he started to write his PhD at the University of Vienna. Title of the PhD was: Opinions in Islamic Law about medical interventions on the limits of life. A contribution to intercultural bioethics (published in 2010 by Ergon-Verlag in Würzburg). He finished his studies with very good grades and earned his PhD. . Next to his studies in Mahad al-Fatḥ in Damascus he also had many private sessions with famous scholars in the before mentioned subjects. After his studies in Syria he moved for two years to Saudi Arabia, where he also had private sessions with local scholars. He also absolved more then one Summer Course in Dār al-Mustafa, Jemen, Tarim. Today he is living in Osnabrück, Germany, and is working on the University Osnabrück on the Institute for Islamic Theology and is also a part-time teacher at the IRPA (for Islamic Studies) in Vienna, Austria.
